tttt David Sutcliffe
David's parents dragged him onto a cruising sailboat at age twelve
and he's been hooked ever since. He spent his early racing years as a
bowman, getting bashed around at the wet, pointy end of the boat before
migrating aft to the drier, more comfy end. David likes the challenge
and teamwork of big boat distance racing and has sailed in a variety of
events including Southern Straits, Swiftsure, VanIsle 360, Vic-Maui,
Darwin - Ambon and Sydney Hobart. |

tttt Naomi Roddick
Relatively new to the sport, Naomi learned to sail only 5 years ago,
discovering a previously unknown passion. Racing with the Martin 242
fleet in English Bay, a very competitive one-design fleet, she found the
learning curve very steep. In 2004, she was proud to compete in the
Womens' National Keelboat Championships in Vancouver.
Deciding that she wanted to do more than race
around the bay, she set her sights on bigger boats, and was lucky to be
given the opportunity to crew on Kinetic. The past year and a half have
proven to be a great learning experience.
After numerous local races, Southern Straits and
Swiftsure, Naomi was part of the Van Isle 360 crew last summer as they
circumnavigated Vancouver Island. She looks forward to doing the
Vic-Maui this July - her first ocean race. |

tttt Damien King Damien
is very excited to be part of such a committed team of sailors and looks
forward to completing his first Vic- Maui Race, a dream of his ever
since he first started sailing. Racing has been a passion of Damien’s
for quite a while now and feels very fortunate to have been afforded
opportunities to race as far off as Germany in the Queen Christina Cup,
representing Canada, New York in the build up to the Farr 40 Worlds, and
locally competing in everything from Swiftsure to Southern Straights to
the J24 North Americans. It has been through the guidance and enthusiasm
of local sailors like David Sutcliffe, Steve Crowe, Darren Burns, Marty
Elson and Kim LaFave that he has garnered such a passion for sailing and
he looks forward to the day when he gets to toast to them in Maui. |

tttt Mark Sykes "Twenty
years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you
didn't do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain |

tttt Greg Westerlund
An experienced J/24 racer,
tired of the usual “left-hand turns at 5kts” regattas, has long
dreamed of the “Science and Magic” of the open sea.
Though an aggressive
competitor by nature, Greg has a big heart and is a dispenser of old
and tiresome jokes.
Firsthand knowledge
include the boom is not your friend, and boats look biggest just
before they run you over
This race will prove a
test of all involved.

tttt Peter Wealick
Peter started
sailing in 1976 and quickly afterward found an interest in racing. A
few of his success have been 2 X winner of VARC boat of the year
and Royal Vancouver Yacht Club skipper of the year. Peter continues
to competitively race his own boat (J-36) but is interested in
crewing on other boats, to gain further experience. The Vic Maui
2006 race will be his first ocean crossing. On the home front, Peter
is married to Wendy, with two children, Chris (13) and Alea (11).
See you in Maui!!!!

tttt Geoff Hargraves
I started sailing catamarans in the mid 70s at
Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, racing on Lake Macquarie and
surfing along the coast. Also had a couple of seasons crewing on a Cole
23 before a transfer away from the lake and marriage put a hold on
sailing for quite a few years. A second marriage and a supportive wife
saw me take up offshore sailing. A number of Cat2 and Cat1 Australian
east coast races prepared me to fulfill my childhood dream, as I sailed
in the 2004 Sydney to Hobart Race. Unfortunately we suffered damage in a
60+ knot gale in Bass Strait and with severe sea sickness threatening
half of the crew we had to retire back to Eden. 2005 I sailed in the ARC
across the Atlantic and returned to Sydney for my second Sydney to
Hobart on board Kioni, with David as my watch captain. Easter 2006 I
crewed in the China sea race from Hong Kong to the Philippines. I'm now
looking forward to my next challenge, The Vic Maui race. |

tttt Bernie Walker
Bernie married a
Canadian school teacher in Australia and returned to meet
the "out-laws" in Vancouver in the early 70's. Thirty-six years
later, he is still here!!!
He built his first boat from a hull and deck
kit, Crown 23, and joined Eagle Harbour Yacht Club, in West Van.
His current boat is a C&C 26 named Pavlova.
He has been racing his own boat since the early
80's in VARC, many Swiftsure and Southern Straits races and in the
Snowflake series out of WVYC. He crewed on Allons-y last year in the
Van Isle 360 and has been a regular crew on Harwar, (J 36), for
many years. As a new addition to the Kinetic crew this year, he is
looking forward to his first off-shore sailing experience in the Vic
Maui Race.

Clayton grew up lake sailing Hobie Cats in the
interior of British Columbia and began ocean racing when he moved
to Vancouver in 1990. Since then he has competed in at least 10
Swiftsure races on numerous cruiser/racers and racers. He was aboard Karina,
a Cayenne 41, last season and was navigator/pit/trimmer for the 2005 Van
Isle 360. He regularly participates in most VARC and club races.
Recently he has been crewing on Havoc, a C&C SR33. Clayton lives in
Vancouver with his wife Kristine and has a son (Adrian) attending UBC. He has cruised
in Mexico, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the San Juan and Gulf
Islands. Having joined Kinetic's crew for the 2006 Swiftsure and
Vic-Maui he is looking forward to a great race with a stellar crew. |
